Sands of Treasure Island hotel to be razed, future plans uncertain amid city's long-term vision

Another Treasure Island icon will be demolished and redeveloped, like many other Gulf-front resorts damaged by back-to-back historic hurricanes in 2024. But there's no clear timeline for beginning construction as the developer awaits clarity from city officials.

The Sands of Treasure Island at 11800 Gulf Blvd. will be reimagined as a boutique hotel developed by Impact Properties, a Tampa-based real estate and development company. The 1947 hotel is closed due to property damage from hurricanes Helene and Milton and will not reopen.

Impact Properties acquired the hotel in early 2017 for $5.25 million, according to property records. Storm damage rendered the building a total loss, Impact Properties CEO Dilip Kanji told the Tampa Bay Business Journal. They've decided to rebuild but are in no rush to do so.
